It’s no mean feat to throw a DIY wedding and we’re endlessly gobsmacked by the amazing creations our couples come up with. From intricate details and thoughtful favours to epic projects that shape the whole wedding, we celebrate some of our favourite DIY moments of 2015…
When the groom is Sayher Heffernan – a rock star photographer and talented designer – you might expect some killer stationery that puts those talents to good use. We love this poster-style wedding invitation snapped by Jonathan Ong from this Melbourne wedding.
Having discovered a love of Buddha tea on a trip to China together, Sam and Chelsea recreated their own loose leaf blend back in Australia, lovingly bottled and tagged as favours for their guests. One of many beautiful DIY details from their Trentham wedding, captured by Pierre Curry.
Crafted from driftwood collected by the groom on surfing trip, this organic arbour was the perfect backdrop to this beach wedding, captured by Katie Harmsworth.
Why didn’t we think of that! Hand-lettered lemon place settings really brighten the tablescape of this stunning Butterland wedding, captured by Jonathan Ong.
A vintage caravan lovingly converted to a mobile bar by the groom’s mum, this is one of the most ambitious DIY projects we’ve seen this year! One of a million things to love about this relaxed farm wedding shot by nomadic lensman, Shantanu Starick.
Simple and super effective, the DIY light box was a trend we were happy to get on board with this year! Captured by Leo Farrell, this Mountain Goat Brewery wedding was an entirely DIY affair.
A vinyl-look ‘mix tape’ of the couple’s favourite tunes from their wedding, the perfect keepsake for their guests! Captured by Lara Hotz, this Mindaribba House Wedding was packed with personal details.
When illustrator Lauren Merrick tied the knot, she pulled out all the stops creating this magical watercolour invitation. Bear Deer Fox captured her earthy Central Coast wedding, which was every bit as enchanting as this illustration.
How to tie-in the bridesman with bridesmaids? The crafty bride from this Euroa Butter Factory wedding fashioned a neck tie from the silk sash of one of the bridesmaids’ Gorman dresses. Genius!
So effective for those all important late-night boozy portraits, we love this gold fringe photo booth backdrop from this Bush Bank wedding. Captured by The Evoke Company, it’s one of the most vibrant weddings of the year!
One of the most ambitious DIY weddings we’ve seen, it was tricky to choose just one element from James and Skye’s big day. Untold hours were spent crafting hundreds of paper gems to create this colourful canopy, and we reckon it looks gorgeous!
